Hello Avonworth Football fans!
We are going into our sixth year at Avonworth High School and we are the model for a successful program. After winning the Eastern Conference Championship in 2008, the team vowed to get back to the play offs in 2009, reaching the WPIAL Quarter Finals. Today the program has a record of 30 wins and 19 losses. There is a great buzz of support in the community, the student body and staff. The team is focused on bringing the title back to Avonworth and their progress can’t be stopped. After a very strong summer training camp things are looking good for the 2010 season. We have a total of 54 players on the roster, we have 9 returning lettermen, 5 returning starters on defense, and 3 on offense, but we have been working hard to fill the void
left by the departing seniors. Two of those seniors are now playing football at the collegiate level, Tommy Turnbull is playing at Westminister College, and Jimmy Zubik is playing at Mount Union College. This gives the Avonworth Football Program a total of 8 college student-athletes. They are Zack Fatigante, Josh Graham, Al Okinski, and Tyler Fatignate at Waynesburg University. Zack Mihalko is playing at Saint Vincent College and Tim Werley is playing at Allegheny College.
This senior group of student-athletes have high expectations for this year. This team is led by a talented group of 13 seniors who have been positive leaders all summer. Among those seniors are All-Conference players Eddie Kurtz, Milton Loop, Ryan Schmid and Scott Barlek. Also stepping up are seniors Andrew Niklaus, Jake Szolis, Cesar Ceniceros, Chris Morrison, Connor O’Donnell and Andrew Eck. These players have a winning attitude and have been very positive in their leadership, the team believes and the program keeps making progress. I hope you join us for this exciting upcoming season and support these young men on their journey this year.
Thanks you for your support.
